Adventuring in Collierville

On the Saturday morning after the 4th, we woke up with some wanderlust, so we decided to drive out to Collierville (only 45 minutes away but we'd never really been out there).  I had been earlier in the week to go to the splash park and noticed some trails nearby, so we decided to check those out.

The trail was a nice boardwalk through a pretty wooded area.  It led up to a Wolf River overlook.  We saw lots of birds and squirrels and even more dogs with people walking by.

Self-timer success!  That is Wolf River in the background.  Wolf River runs into the Mississippi creating the Northern boundary of Mud Island.

Mid-yawn.  I just love the way he crosses his ankles!  Just like his dad.

 After a nice, shaded walk, we changed Paul to his swimsuit and let him play in the splash park. He really likes it, but mostly just likes that he can carry around his cup, fill it with water and dump it out, and we encourage it.  (At home he figures out how to spill every cup we give him -- even the "spill-proof" ones.)

Paul has recently been pretty interested in ducks, so we thought it would be fun to let him get an up-close look.  These ducks probably thought we were going to feed them, so they came right up to us. 

After some fun in the sun, we went to the square to find a place to eat.  I had heard Dyer's was a good place to get a burger, so we decided to try that.  We were not disappointed!  We both got cheeseburgers and split fries and onion rings and everything was delicious!

Paul sat in his high chair the ENTIRE time.  This has never happened before, ever.  He did get soaking wet though, because he insisted on using a straw to drink his water.

After our very filling meal, we walked around the square and in and out of the little shops that lined it.  There was an old timey gas station that looked neat, so I took a few pictures of Michael and Paul in front of it.

We noticed a City Hall Cheesecake and had heard good things, so we knew we had to try it!  This is raspberry white chocolate, and it was amazing.  All three of us enjoyed it very much!

He loved the steps.  He just went up and down over and over again, occasionally sitting for a break.

Just look at those teeth.  It's hard to believe he got those two in almost a year ago!

We had such an awesome time visiting Collierville.  We definitely want to go back again!  We might have to try a new restaurant, but we might also have to get root beer floats at Dyer's next time.

That evening, we had the Coles over again since the 4th was so much fun.  I took a few more pictures, mostly just Paul playing in the water.
