January Roundup

Here is our January recap!  It was a COLD month here in Memphis.  That paired with the feeling of settling back into our home made it a pretty lazy month, which was just what we needed after the busy holidays!

Paul loved this at the Georgia Aquarium.  He tried to get on while another kid was on it.  Ooops.

A pretty picture of the year's first arctic blast.

When we came home to Memphis after our Atlanta trip, we soon realized our heater was not working.  It wasn't bad until we woke up to the teens the next morning and has to seriously bundle up in the house (see Paul above!).   That is frozen condensation on the inside of our window...

We are so grateful for our friends Katie and Craig who let us stay with them until our heater was fixed.  The temp got down to maybe 9 degrees and we would not have been able to stay in our cold home!  Paul was still exhausted from our trip and wanted to be home and was a bit of a mess while we were there.  The thought of walking down the stairs was just too much for him, so he took a nap at the top first.

We were so happy to finally be back in the house that I didn't even care when I came out of the bathroom one morning to find toilet paper everywhere.  To be fair, he did have a light cold, so he used some of the toilet paper to blow his nose.

The cats are getting more used to Paul, although they are still wary.  Phoebe is pretty stubborn and doesn't like to move once she is comfortable, so she'll put up with a lot.

We had to take advantage of the few warm days to go on walks around the neighborhood.

He was so proud of this diaper hat he fashioned himself.

Another favorite warm day activity was the zoo!

I ripped up my toe by closing it in Paul's sliding closet doors.  Ouch!  Paul wanted a "bam-boo" on his toe,
 too.

I love how beautiful our neighborhood is, even in winter.

One morning, after a fun trip to the pool, Paul saw a truck parked across the street.  He got so excited, he stood by the window to watch.  It was a big one from Lowe's, unloading a washer and dryer, so he actually got to see some action.  He loved it!  I even set up his lunch so he could watch while he ate.  After his nap he ran to the window and was pretty disappointed to see it was gone.

Blurry, but such a cute, rare type of smile from him!  I love all the faces he makes.

One day as we were preparing for nap time, he took ALL of his diapers (around 100) and piled them in his bed to sleep on.

He quickly learned that going outside in January meant a hat and gloves!  He decided to raid my drawer to change up his accessories.

Sweet Sophie

Crazy bedhead after a nap.

It's a little hard to see due to glare/angle, but we got an up close look at the bonobos at the zoo one day!  The baby bonobo is off to the right side.  She was born last May and we always make a point to go check on her growth.  It has been fun to see her grow and become more mobile and adventurous!

The best naps are the ones you share.

Our special little unicorn.

OK so the following three pictures were all taken on the same (rough) day.  In the first, Paul has spit milk (he sucks it out of his cup, holds onto it and then spits it out) into a hole on the basketball hoop.  In the second, he has climbed onto the cat food area table, and is flinging cat food (which he calls "treats") everywhere.  In the third, he has drawn half of a purple mustache onto his face.

BUT THEN you have moments like these that melt your heart and make you forget what a terror your child can be.  This is with Sophie, too, so a rare moment between them.

Too tired to stand up and play...

Paul and his BFF Phoebe.

New discovery: Paul and I both love pomegranate seeds!  Michael's not a fan, though.

Paul saw a bird fly over while we were on a walk.  He immediately plopped down to look at the bird.
